Well guys.... I have somehow managed to loose my camera!! My daughter had a 1st grade performance on Tuesday night and the camera got misplaced somewhere between the school and home!! That is why I haven't posted more pictures!!
Sorry!
So... updates without pictures... Week 3....Puppies all have their eyes and ears wide open! They are walking and even trying to run (kind of)!! Tails are wagging and a few are playing! A few have discovered their bark... its pretty cute! Sometimes one will bark and then fall over because it surprises them!
This past week I started to bottle feed a couple of the puppies. There are so many that Jewel was having difficulty feeding them all!! Its been a lot of work but my kids especially have enjoyed it. We have only ever needed to use the bottle once before.... with Jewel's last litter of 11!! I tried to cheat this time and use powdered puppy formula but they wouldn't eat it! So... I went back to a homemade puppy formula made with goats milk, whole fat yogurt, egg yolk and karo syrup (just a tiny bit!). They LOVE it!
Yesterday I actually introduced the whole gang to "puppy mush". This is when things get really messy! I soak the Diamond Naturals small breed puppy kibble in water over night until its soft. Then I mix it with the homemade puppy formula and blend it in my blender so its nice and liquefied. I warm it up and put it in a shallow pie plate and ... they go crazy!! They jump in with both feet (literally) and go to town! I will feed them this 3 to 4 times a day for the next little while. Slowly I will puree the mixture less and less as they get teeth. At that point I will add chicken into the mixture as well. Eventually they will be able to eat the plain kibble.... but not for awhile!!
So now they get REALLY messy at every meal.... and they make a mess of their box too! Now is when the real work begins... keeping them fed and clean is a constant, all day process!! Miss Red needs a bath everytime she eats! She literally lays in the bowl and gets covered in the mush.... and that stuff does NOT smell great...
Anyway.... Since I don't have pictures to post I have added some pictures of a puppy from Jewel's last litter. (different daddy) These pictures span about a year so you can see his development. This is Oggie....
Sorry!
